Advanced Digital Broadcast, a leading designer and developer of set-top boxes and their software for cable satellite and terrestrial interactive television, is joining StarHub, Singapore's sole pay-TV operator, at the celebration of its first-year-of-operation roadshow in the Singapore International Convention and Exhibition Centre (SICEC), Level Two Ballroom. The event will take place from noon until 9 p.m. on Saturday July 12 and from 11a.m. to 9 p.m. on Sunday July 13.
ADB is one of four key technology partners selected to work with StarHub to put in place a system for its digital cable services due for rollout by the end of 2003. The others are conditional access provider Nagravision, system integrator Thomson Broadcast & Media Solutions, and middleware provider, OpenTV.
During the two-day event, ADB is showcasing three of the own-design applications it is providing for StarHub's digital cable services later this year. These are: Its TV mail, EasyMail, which enables users to send and receive e-mail via the set-top box, its VOD, and its SMS TV service that will enable instant messaging from mobile phones to TV screens and back.
"This will be a first deployment of SMS for Singapore," says ADB's Technical Marketing director Wojciech Doganowski of the SMS. "Unlike in a chat application that takes users' messages into a public chat room, our SMS application allows direct one-on-one communication via the set-top box to mobile, PC or the Internet. ADB will be providing the set-top box, the main tool that will connect subscribers to the broadcaster and the Internet and also directly to mobile communications services."
Thomas Ee, StarHub's Senior Vice President for Online Services noted, "With reliable and innovative partners such as ADB, we are confident that our digital cable services will provide our subscribers with a delightful interactive TV experience by enabling them to enjoy quality and entertaining TV programmes, and communicate with other subscribers on a single digital cable platform."
